The World Sikh Parliament Religious Council UK has strongly condemned the reported desecration of pages of the Holy Quran by an individual allegedly posing as a Sikh, stressing that disrespect towards any religious scripture is contrary to Sikh teachings.

In a statement dated 9 October 2026, the council said Sikhism upholds the dignity of all faiths, their sacred texts and their followers. It said the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Guru Nanak Dev Ji emphasise respect for humanity, religious freedom and the recognition of the divine light in every soul.

The council clarified that the reported incident did not represent the Sikh community or the principles of Sikhi. It also urged anyone with information about the incident or those responsible to report it to their local police force.

Call for Sikh Muslim solidarity

The council appealed to members of the Muslim community to remain vigilant against attempts to create divisions between religious communities.

It expressed concern that individuals or groups seeking to fuel anti-Sikh and anti-Muslim sentiment could undermine the longstanding bonds of solidarity between the two communities, both in the UK and internationally.

The statement called on religious leaders, community representatives, gurdwaras and mosques across the country to maintain open dialogue and work together to counter divisive actions.

It emphasised that mutual respect, justice and peaceful coexistence must remain central to relations between Sikh and Muslim communities.

Bhupinder Singh, Secretary of the Religious Council at the World Sikh Parliament UK, issued the statement, reaffirming the council’s position that all religious scriptures and faith communities deserve respect and protection.

The council’s message was clear: an act of religious desecration should not be allowed to fuel hostility between communities or undermine their shared commitment to peace and mutual respect.
