ISLAMABAD — Economic ties between Pakistan and the United States are gaining momentum, with bilateral trade surpassing $8 billion, highlighting growing commercial opportunities between the two countries.

US Chargé d’Affaires to Pakistan Natalie Baker recently said the United States remains committed to expanding cooperation with Pakistan’s private sector, universities, technology companies and government institutions.

The two countries are exploring greater cooperation in trade, investment, artificial intelligence, software development, digital services, higher education and emerging technologies. Pakistan has also identified the United States as a key market for expanding exports.

According to the US Trade Representative, US goods trade with Pakistan reached approximately $8.7 billion in 2025, with US imports from Pakistan standing at $5.4 billion.

Pakistan is now aiming to take the relationship further. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said in July that bilateral goods trade could potentially double to $20 billion within five years, signalling Islamabad’s ambition to build a broader and more balanced economic partnership with Washington.

The growing trade relationship marks a significant opportunity for both countries to expand investment, create jobs and strengthen long-term economic cooperation.
