Pakistan, UK Agree to Strengthen Bilateral Ties During London Talks
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband in London today for delegation-level talks focused on strengthening relations between the two countries.
The two sides discussed a wide range of issues, including trade, cooperation, regional security and other areas of mutual interest. They agreed to establish a structured mechanism for regular talks between the two Foreign Ministries, aimed at keeping bilateral cooperation moving forward and reviewing progress on key issues.
The Middle East was also high on the agenda. Ishaq Dar briefed the British side on Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation efforts in the region. Miliband welcomed Pakistan’s constructive role in encouraging dialogue and supporting efforts for greater stability.
The ministers also exchanged views on the Indus Waters Treaty and the wider security situation in the region. Dar raised Pakistan’s concerns over India’s position and stressed the importance of respecting international law and treaty commitments.
Security threats from Afghanistan were another key issue, with Dar expressing serious concern over terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory and the threat they pose to Pakistan’s peace and security.
Both sides agreed that continued high-level engagement and closer coordination are important for promoting peace, stability and cooperation.
The role of the Pakistani diaspora in Britain was also recognised, with both sides highlighting its importance in maintaining and strengthening the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and the UK.
