Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been transferred from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical treatment and examination.

The transfer took place early Friday following an order from Pakistan’s Supreme Court, which directed authorities to move Khan to hospital within 48 hours and arrange an independent medical assessment.

Khan, who has been imprisoned since August 2023, has faced growing concerns over his health. His family and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have repeatedly called for access to specialist medical care.

The Supreme Court also ordered the formation of a medical panel, including specialists and Khan’s personal physician, to assess his condition and oversee his treatment.

Heavy security has been deployed around Shifa International Hospital following Khan’s arrival, as authorities manage his transfer and medical care.

The development comes amid continued political tensions surrounding Khan’s imprisonment and PTI’s demands for his release.
