Indian Diplomat Dinesh Patnaik’s Convoy Blocked in Canada, Tiranga Torn During Protest

A major protest erupted outside the Pearson Convention Center in Brampton, Canada, on 26 May 2026 where activists linked to the Khalistan referendum campaign allegedly blocked the convoy of Indian diplomat Dinesh Patnaik during an event.

Videos circulating on social media showed demonstrators chanting slogans, waving Khalistan flags and confronting vehicles near the venue. During the chaotic scenes, India’s national flag, the Tiranga, was reportedly torn apart by protesters, further escalating tensions surrounding the event.

The protest was organised by Khalistan referendum activists associated with Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) who have continued campaigning in Canada despite strong objections from New Delhi. The incident once again highlights the growing diplomatic friction between India and pro Khalistan groups operating abroad.

Security officials were seen attempting to manage the crowd as the convoy faced disruption outside the convention center. No official statement regarding arrests or injuries had been released at the time of reporting.

The development is likely to intensify already strained relations between India and Canada, where Khalistan related demonstrations have repeatedly sparked political and diplomatic controversy in recent years.
