By Safina khan / London The government has said that former Minister Imran Khan was provided with a detailed medical examination and treatment without delay, in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directions.
According to the government, the relevant medical specialists and a medical board were made available, fulfilling the primary purpose of the court’s order.
Officials said an unusually large gathering of party workers, different groups, media vans and journalists outside Al Shifa International Hospital created significant security, privacy and administrative concerns. In view of these circumstances, the decision to shift the location of the medical examination was described as necessary and prudent.
The government clarified that transferring Imran Khan to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) was not a refusal to provide medical treatment or examination. Rather, it was a security-related decision aimed at ensuring that he received the required medical facilities in a safer environment.
PIMS is one of Pakistan’s major public-sector teaching hospitals, with qualified specialists and comprehensive medical facilities. The government therefore rejected the impression that a reliable medical examination could only be conducted at a particular private hospital.
Officials also pointed out that, under established procedures, prisoners and other detainees are generally taken to government hospitals for medical examinations. Imran Khan has also previously been taken to public-sector hospitals for medical assessment.
According to the government, a medical board comprising an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician conducted a detailed examination of Imran Khan and declared him medically fit.
His sister, Uzma Khan, was reportedly present throughout the medical process and witnessed the examination, which the government said ensured transparency and family representation.
The government further claimed that the latest medical assessment contradicted what it described as PTI’s “baseless international narrative” regarding a continuous deterioration in Imran Khan’s health.
Officials said Imran Khan was medically fit and in a good mood during the examination and cooperated fully with doctors and medical staff.
The government also criticised social media commentators and YouTubers who, despite the medical arrangements, continued to question the process, alleging that some were more interested in political sensationalism and financial gains than in Imran Khan’s health.
The government maintained that the decision to conduct the examination at PIMS was based on security and administrative considerations and should not be interpreted as a departure from the Supreme Court’s directions.
