DUBAI, Aug. 5: The Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai commemorated Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir with a dignified ceremony attended by a large number of members of the Pakistani and Kashmiri communities, reaffirming Pakistan’s continued support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The event was held to denounce India’s unilateral actions of August 5, 2019, when it revoked the special constitutional status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), a move Pakistan maintains was an attempt to alter the internationally recognized disputed status of the territory.
Addressing the gathering, Consul General Hussain Muhammad said Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir is a day to pay tribute to the sacrifices, resilience, and determination of the Kashmiri people in their struggle for their rights.
He described August 5, 2019, as more than a date, calling it a turning point that pushed the Kashmir dispute into a new and deeply concerning phase.
The Consul General said India’s unilateral measures could neither change the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir nor deprive the Kashmiri people of their right to self-determination.
“Kashmir is not merely a piece of land; it represents the history, identity, and aspirations of millions of people,” he said, adding that a just and lasting solution to the dispute can only be achieved through international law and the implementation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Hussain Muhammad reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to extending its political, diplomatic, and moral support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He also urged overseas Pakistanis and Kashmiris to continue raising awareness of the Kashmir issue and advocating for the rights of the Kashmiri people on international platforms.
Special messages from Pakistan’s leadership marking Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir were read during the ceremony. The event also featured a photographic exhibition highlighting the human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, along with a special documentary focusing on the region.
The ceremony concluded with participants renewing their commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and keeping the Kashmir issue in the international spotlight.
