Chairman of the EU Pak Friendship Federation Europe, Dr Pervez Iqbal Lohsar, has said that overseas Pakistanis are playing a vital role in strengthening Pakistan’s economy through record-breaking remittances and investment. He praised their unwavering love and commitment to their homeland, noting that despite working abroad, they continue to support the country’s economic stability by sending a significant portion of their earnings back to Pakistan.
He expressed these views while addressing the Conference on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Pakistan, held in Gujrat on 25 July 2026.
Dr Lohsar urged the Government of Pakistan to establish an effective one-window operation for overseas investors, enabling them to complete NOC requirements and other legal and administrative procedures through a single platform. He said overseas Pakistanis often face unnecessary delays due to lengthy bureaucratic processes and having to deal with multiple government departments. A streamlined one-window system, he added, would remove these obstacles and encourage greater foreign direct investment.
He highlighted that overseas Pakistanis remitted US$38 billion to Pakistan last year, while remittances have risen to US$42 billion this year, setting a new record in the country’s history. According to Dr Lohsar, this achievement reflects the overseas community’s confidence in Pakistan and their enduring commitment to its prosperity.
Dr Lohsar also noted that Gujrat is one of Pakistan’s leading districts with a large overseas population. He said expatriates from the district are not only contributing substantial foreign exchange through remittances but are also playing an important role in promoting foreign direct investment in Pakistan.
The conference’s chief guest was Major General Dilawar Khan, Director General Welfare and Rehabilitation (W&R). The event was attended by Khalid Asghar Gharal and overseas Pakistanis from more than 50 countries around the world.
