By Safina khan/LONDON: The Pakistan High Commission in London hosted a ceremony to mark Pakistan’s Defence and Martyrs’ Day, with former Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General (Retd) Zubair Mahmood Hayat as the chief guest.
British parliamentarians, senior government officials, diplomats, defence attachés, media representatives and members of the Pakistani community attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Taimur Osman, paid tribute to the country’s armed forces and the sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs.
He highlighted Pakistan’s recent military achievements and said the country’s political and military leadership, together with the unwavering support of the Pakistani people, had demonstrated Pakistan’s resolve and capability to defend its sovereignty.
The High Commissioner also emphasised Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability, including efforts to strengthen defence and security cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued political, moral and diplomatic support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Guests at the ceremony paid tribute to the dedication, professionalism and services of Pakistan’s armed forces, while reaffirming national unity in support of the country’s defence and sovereignty.
